Favorite K-Pop Songs of the Year: 2014

Hellooooo everyone! I’m back! ❤

You might be thinking, “Wait… who’s this?” and to that, I say “It’s Time to K-Pop!” Haha… stupid jokes aside, I really (sincerely) missed talking to you guys and posting on the blog, especially considering all that has happened in the K-pop industry recently. Yup, I’m talking about the good, the bad, and the ugly. :S It’s already been 9 months (!!!!!) since I’ve posted, and before anything else, I’d like to explain why I’ve been away for so long. First off, I’m so so so sorry for my absence. 😦 I’ve been really busy with school and college applications, and it was a bit overwhelming for me… I could go into more depth (and rant) about this, but I’ll save it because we have other, more interesting things to talk about! 😀

Anyways, I’m back, and we’re already almost halfway done with 2015! 😮 I hope the new year has been great for everyone, and that you guys achieve whatever goal you have in mind! 🙂

Enough with all that rambling though! A looot has happened in k-pop, whether that be good or bad and now that 2014 is over (since quite a while ago), I want to celebrate all the songs I felt were my favorites in this past year. I think this list is going to be a bit long (and this post is already long), so let’s get started! The songs are in no particular order. 🙂

Screen shot 2015-05-13 at 7.46.44 PM

Overdose – Exo: A lot has happened to Exo this past year (I’m sure you guys know what I’m talking about) but I think this powerful, yet catchy song is definitely one to recognize for 2014, and for Exo. Check out the video for the awesome dance routine as well as well. 🙂

Eyes, Nose, Lips – Taeyang: I’ve written about this song already in previous posts, but to summarize what I said: I love this song. I listened to it a lot when it first came out, and I kept it on repeat for a looong time. Such a nice song! Definitely one of the highlights of k-pop in 2014, so check it out if you haven’t already!

200% – Akdong Musician: In my opinion, Akmu was one of the best rookies of 2014 and their album Play is fantastic. The album is amazing, and it has many great songs in it. This super talented group deserves to be recognized for its talent!

Lonely – B1A4: (Almost) every time B1A4 releases a song, I am singing along to it in a few days. Their songs are so catchy, and this song is definitely one of those catchy songs as well! Another song that I listen to on repeat. 🙂

Her – Block B: This song was AWESOME. So catchy, fun, and unique. I just realized that I never published the “Talking about” I did on this music video… Woops :p That really sucks haha, but I basically mentioned how much of an awesome song it was, and how much I was in love with it. :p Her is not only one of my favorites for 2014, but also of Block B’s songs!

Some – Soyou & Jung Gi Go: The song that defined the year of 2014 in terms of kpop… Haha okay, this is a bit of an exaggeration (I’ll admit) but I feel like this sweet, catchy song became very popular in Korea. If you weren’t too crazy about k-pop last year (and missed out on this song), listening to Some is a must!

Come Back Home – 2NE1: Don’t let the quirkiness of the video scare you! This song is fantastic! 2NE1 has very strong vocals and it is definitely showcased in this song. It’s a super interesting mix of a lot of different styles, which combine into a very catchy song. 😀

1004 – B.A.P: Hehe, if you’ve read a few of my previous posts, you’ll know that I have a soft side for B.A.P. :’) My obsession aside, though, I think 1004 is an awesome song! It’s really cool and it packs a powerful performance. Great song from a talented group! P.S. Is anyone else really sad about B.A.P’s lawsuit? 😥

Good Luck – Beast: This song is awesome! It’s really catchy, and it brings back memories of the days when I was crazy about Beast haha :’) Super interesting sound! It’s a good place to start if you’ve never heard of any Beast songs.

Go Crazy – 2PM: What to say… other than GO CRAZY! This might be one of the catchiest, most fun songs on this list. Not only is the dance really fun, the song itself makes me want to dance. This is the song for you if you want a fun, upbeat dance song! I strongly recommend that you watch a performance video of it, because the dance adds to the fun of the song. 🙂

A – GOT7: GOT7 is also one of my favorite rookies (and groups in general) of 2014! They are a fun, talented group that has awesome songs. 🙂 So groovy and fun! This song is a must-press-repeat-after-listening-to-the-first-time type of song, because it is just that catchy and cute. 🙂 Stop stop it is really cool too, but I personally prefer A!

Angel – Yoon Mi Rae: This song probably isn’t as well-known as the other songs on this list (and you might not consider it k-pop) but it is too good not to include. Rather simple and a bit repetitive, but it’s so sweet and awesome! 🙂 It’s not like Yoon Mi Rae’s usual style, but it is still just as awesome!

Hold Me Tight – Loco: Again, another song that isn’t really k-pop (hehe). Regardless, this song is awesome! It shows how awesome Loco’s vocals are, and is a definite must. Its hip-hop feel might not be your thing, but for me, it’s totally what I love!

It’s You – Neon Bunny: Not k-pop, but still awesome! Neon Bunny has a very interesting sound that shines through in this song. Might not be your cup of tea, but still give it a try! 🙂 I highly suggest that you try other Neon Bunny songs if you enjoyed this one as well.

Chisa Bounce – M.I.B: I have no idea why I love this song so much.. But I do! 😀 It’s not as popular as the other songs on this list, but it’s just as awesome. Something about its unconventional sound, which still accomplishes catchiness, deserves a spot on this list. The chorus is awesome!

That’s it for this post friends! 🙂 I’m so sorry for the delay again (9 months is a looong time) but I promise I will start posting more frequently now. I’ve been itching to talk to you guys about k-pop these days haha. There have been a lot of awesome songs in 2015 already, and now I need to catch up. 🙂 This list is not complete (at all) and I’ll add to it if I remember anything. These are the only ones that I can remember right now. 🙂 What do you think about my list? Were your favorites here? Let me know what songs I missed in the comments! I’d love to find out what other songs you have in mind. 🙂 Thank you for being patient!

Haven’t said this in forever, but hugs from your fellow K-Popper! ❤

Talking about Touch My Body – Sistar

Heyo!

Look who’s back with another post! 😀 Today I’ll be talking about Touch My Body by Sistar! Let’s get to it, shall we? 😀

Sistar is a 4 member group (with Hyorin, Bora, Soyou, and Dasom) under Starship Entertainment. I’ve written a K-Pop Group of the Day already on them, so that should give some more context on the group and my opinions, if you want to check that out. 🙂

Song: Touch my bodyyy, bodyyy! I mean, I don’t know what you guys think about this song, but despite the sensual lyrics, I happen to find this a very catchy song. It’s very fun, bubbly, and it certainly has a nice tune to be a great summer song, which I’m guessing is what they were trying to go for with their concept. I love the saxophone playing in the background and the popping noises (if that makes any sense…I’m hoping you guys understand what I’m talking about). 😛 The song gets catchier as you listen to it and I see this as a song I’ll jam out to during the summer! 🙂

Music Video: This video has summer written all over it, and personally, I’m actually quite liking the vibe. 😀 I love the vibrant colors, the fun props, and their outfits (seriously so pretty!). From the cameos (yeaaah No Hongchul!) to the sets, the video gives off a fresh, bubbly feel to it. It’s a fun music video, but one thing I didn’t like (This applies to their performances of Touch My Body in general) is the dance routine. Now it’d be unfair of me to say that I didn’t like the whole dance because some parts were cool, but no matter how much I try, I just can’t get myself to like the leg shake (among some other choreographies as well, but not as much). 😛 Despite this, the video is very appropriate to the vibe of the song! 😀

Overall, I liked both the song and the video! 🙂 I think I would download it! If you’re craving a little bit more of Sistar, check out the acoustic version of the song and the dance practice of Touch My Body! 😀 Hope you guys enjoyed this post, and I’m so so sorry this is up really late! 😦 I drafted this post a long time ago, but I was really busy and the fact that I was sick didn’t really help either. 😦 What did you guys think about Touch My Body? Let me know! Thanks for reading hehe, and I’ll try my best to catch up soon! 😀

Hugs from your fellow K-Popper! ❤

Talking about Day 1 – K. Will

Hey everyone! 🙂

How have you all been doing? I’ve been obsessed about soccer player Song Heung Min (I mean, it is the World Cup and he is so adorable), but today I am not here to talk about cute soccer players (although that does sound like fun :P), and instead, I’ll be talking about K. Will’s Day 1! I was originally planning on talking about a different release, but after watching this music video, I really wanted to mention this one first. As a fan of K. Will, I’m excited to talk about this release!

Song: I’m absolutely adoring it! His voice never fails to amaze me (and melt my heart :3) and this is the case for this song as well. The lyrics were really cute (they made me smile hehe) but my favorite lines had to be “I’m the most good-looking out of the worst”, which is how I would roughly translate it to from Korean because not only does it have that sweet element, it also has humor.  I’m loving the beat (and the guitar part) as well as the super catchy chorus. The song has a great balance between an amazingly sweet voice, adorable lyrics, and really nice instrumentation. I love this song; K. Will is amazing at conveying romance/love songs, and I think this definitely supports my claim. 😉 I’ll definitely be bobbing my head and happily singing along to Day 1!

Music Video: This video is another dimension of adorableness, and as much as I can’t get enough of the song, I can’t get enough of this super cute music video either! Park Minwoo is absolutely adorable and although he’s supposed to be playing the role of an “average looking guy”, we all know he’s so much more than that, especially with his acting in the video. 😉 Soyou and Minwoo look great together, but what I appreciated is, of course, the storyline of the video.  I briefly mentioned in the beginning of the post that I’ve been a fan of K. Will (for a while now actually), and one of the reasons for this is his great voice but also his interesting music videos (that I enjoy watching :D). This is yet another awesome music video. I loved the development of the relationship between the two (not to mention that K. Will is actually in his music video, because that’s rare!) and how the video made my heart flutter, and feel all warm inside. 🙂 I’m obsessed with this video and how it can tell the story of the song in such an entertaining and adorable way. 🙂

Overall, I’m loving the song and video and kudos to K. Will because he’s delivered yet another awesome video to go along with his great title track! I have already downloaded the song (the whole album, really and will definitely be checking it out soon). 🙂 How did you guys feel about Day 1? Let me know! Oh, and don’t forget to check out this adorable live performance of the song! Have a great weekend!

K-Pop Group Of The Day: SISTAR

Hello guys!

I know I haven’t been posting in a while and I apologize for that. I don’t want you guys to think I’m slacking off (because I’m really not :(), but I just didn’t think it would be appropriate after the tragedy that occurred in South Korea. Please keep all those affected in your thoughts and prayers at this difficult time and help or support them if you can.

Thank you for being patient. ❤ Today’s post will be a K-Pop Group of the Day on the awesome girl group SISTAR. SISTAR is a group under Starship Entertainment, and they debuted in 2010. The members consist of Hyorin, Dasom, Bora, and Soyou.

Favorite member? Well, the group only has 4 members which seems to be less than the average number of members, and because of this, I think it’s easier (for lack of a better word) to get to know the members better. That being said, I really like all of them because they are so talented, but I’d have to say that it’s either Hyorin because of her amazing voice and talent, or Soyou because of her great singing, but also all the awesome collaborations she is part of. One example of this is Some – JungGiGo & Soyou (among others which I will talk about soon!). Check it out!

Favorite song? This question wasn’t as difficult to answer as it was for other groups I’ve talked about (and I don’t really know why because I like all of their songs). My favorite SISTAR song is Loving U because it’s such a sweet, cute, catchy song, but also because it brings back memories from my trip to Korea in 2012. I’m not even kidding, every other shop or café I went in had this song playing in the background. :3 Either way, I think it’s a great summer song. What do you guys think? You can click here to check it out! Also, another song I want to talk about is SISTAR19 – Ma Boy, which you can check out here! It isn’t technically a SISTAR song, but let’s just say it counts since SISTAR19 is their subunit :3. I’m mentioning it because not only is it an awesome song, but the dance was memorable, for me at the least. I remember people around me were obsessed with it, and most people tried to copy it 😛 I think it’s a catchy song that you should listen to if you haven’t already.

One thing that sets them apart from others? I think the answer to this would probably have to be their dancing (as they always have super fun ones to follow) topped with each member’s great vocals!

Overall opinion? Well, I think SISTAR is great, based on what I know of their super catchy songs, fun dances, and great singing! I have yet to be greatly disappointed by their releases and as of now, I am impressed with their releases and accomplishments. 🙂

What are your opinions about SISTAR? Let me know in the comments! Thank you so much for reading and I’ll talk to you guys soon.

Hugs from your fellow K-Popper. ❤

Songs of the Month: March

Hello friends!

It’s finally the end of March and I don’t know about you guys, but I feel like it passed by so fast! How was March for you? Personally, it was a special month for me because I started my Time to K-pop blog and I’m really happy I did! What are some memorable things in March for you guys – K-pop related or non-related? Let me know in the comments!

Songs of the Month is an idea I had for a category when I started the blog. I decided to do it as a monthly thing, because doing it weekly would be too often. Since it’s finally the end of March, I thought I’d start posting it now, before it’s too late :3! Songs of the Month will basically be, as the title says, songs that I’ve discovered in the month that I really liked, and want to share with you guys. The songs won’t necessarily be released in that month, although many of them might be, but will be chosen by when I encountered them. Feel free to leave any song recommendations of your favorites from the month! Let’s go and get started!

By the way, this month might have a few songs from February too, since I obviously didn’t have a Songs of the Month then, so keep that in mind! Make sure to click the links if you haven’t listened to the songs already!

1004 – B.A.P.: Absolutely love this song! It’s obviously different from their Warrior style, but I really enjoyed both the song and their performance either! Their album, First Sensibility, is awesome too! P.S. Happy birthday to Bang Yong Guk (the leader of B.A.P)! :3

You Deserve Better – Verbal Jint: There are a few things I have to say about this song. First off, I didn’t really find it this month, but I rediscovered it, and I realized how much I love it. It’s seriously one of my favorite K-pop songs. I don’t know why, I just find it so nice. Also, I don’t really know if the translation of the title is right so don’t blame me. :S Anyways, definitely give it a listen if you haven’t already!

Mr. Mr. – SNSD: I won’t talk about this song too much, since many of you probably know it already, but I really thought it was a cool, catchy song!

Some – JungGiGo & SoYou: A lot of you probably know this song too, since it’s been #1 in many music programs, but it’s still one of my favorites anyway! I love their voices and the song is so sweet. I never really talked about the video, but it’s so so so cute!

Four Times Around the Sun – Nell: I’m a fan of Nell (I should probably do a K-pop Findings about them soon) and this song was far from a disappointment. It’s a really nice song and definitely one of the highlights of this month.

해도 해도 너무했어 – Navi: I don’t think many people know about this song, and I apologize but I don’t really know how to translate the title, but I really liked it and I thought her voice was great. 🙂

Video Games – Boys’ Republic: I haven’t really talked about this song much, but I find it to be really catchy, and the chorus is really cool. It’s an overall really awesome song and more people should give it a listen!

I have a girlfriend – JYP:  Such an old song! I know, I know, but I rediscovered it this month, and I decided I’d include it for all of you that haven’t heard of it already. I’m sure that there’s a better version of this song somewhere, and despite the fact that this video is cringeworthy, I decided to include it anyways because hey, awesome blast from the past. The song is great though, especially the guitar parts :3

R.O.D – G.D.: I didn’t listen to this song when it was released (I really don’t know why) and when I found this song, I fell in love with it, and especially the chorus. It’s an awesome, and I really love this particular performance too.

Secret Love – B.A.P: Another B.A.P song (hehe sorry about that) and I do know that it’s really old, but I rediscovered this song this month. It’s really nice!

See Through – Kwon Jin Ah: I know lots of people were crazy about her cover of this song, and although it’s part of the audition program K-Pop Star, I had to include it here because her voice is so great and my oh my, what an amazing song and performance. I can not get over her voice. K-Pop Star fans unite! 😀 Oh, and check out the original here if you’d like!

Wild Flower – Park Hyo Shin: This song is so relaxing, and beautiful at the same time. If you’re needing to wind down, calm down with a great song, this is for you!

Also, here are some of my favorites from Talking about’s in this month. To be honest, the songs this month were all pretty awesome, so these are just a few that I decided to include here too.

Without You – Lee Michelle, Come Back Home – 2NE1, Full Moon – Sunmi, Be a Man – MBLAQ, and many others (that I won’t include here but check them out in the actual Talking about’s) haha :3

I’m pretty sure I’m missing some songs (sorry, I’ll keep track of songs better next month hehe) and I’ll update this as I remember them, but this is it for now! I really hope you guys enjoyed this and don’t forget to include your suggestions too! I hope April is even better than March for all of you! 🙂 I’m looking forward to all the cool songs that will be released in April! Thanks for reading, and all the support! 🙂

Hugs from your fellow K-Popper! ❤
