Favorite K-Pop Songs of the Year: 2014

Hellooooo everyone! I’m back! ❤

You might be thinking, “Wait… who’s this?” and to that, I say “It’s Time to K-Pop!” Haha… stupid jokes aside, I really (sincerely) missed talking to you guys and posting on the blog, especially considering all that has happened in the K-pop industry recently. Yup, I’m talking about the good, the bad, and the ugly. :S It’s already been 9 months (!!!!!) since I’ve posted, and before anything else, I’d like to explain why I’ve been away for so long. First off, I’m so so so sorry for my absence. 😦 I’ve been really busy with school and college applications, and it was a bit overwhelming for me… I could go into more depth (and rant) about this, but I’ll save it because we have other, more interesting things to talk about! 😀

Anyways, I’m back, and we’re already almost halfway done with 2015! 😮 I hope the new year has been great for everyone, and that you guys achieve whatever goal you have in mind! 🙂

Enough with all that rambling though! A looot has happened in k-pop, whether that be good or bad and now that 2014 is over (since quite a while ago), I want to celebrate all the songs I felt were my favorites in this past year. I think this list is going to be a bit long (and this post is already long), so let’s get started! The songs are in no particular order. 🙂

Screen shot 2015-05-13 at 7.46.44 PM

Overdose – Exo: A lot has happened to Exo this past year (I’m sure you guys know what I’m talking about) but I think this powerful, yet catchy song is definitely one to recognize for 2014, and for Exo. Check out the video for the awesome dance routine as well as well. 🙂

Eyes, Nose, Lips – Taeyang: I’ve written about this song already in previous posts, but to summarize what I said: I love this song. I listened to it a lot when it first came out, and I kept it on repeat for a looong time. Such a nice song! Definitely one of the highlights of k-pop in 2014, so check it out if you haven’t already!

200% – Akdong Musician: In my opinion, Akmu was one of the best rookies of 2014 and their album Play is fantastic. The album is amazing, and it has many great songs in it. This super talented group deserves to be recognized for its talent!

Lonely – B1A4: (Almost) every time B1A4 releases a song, I am singing along to it in a few days. Their songs are so catchy, and this song is definitely one of those catchy songs as well! Another song that I listen to on repeat. 🙂

Her – Block B: This song was AWESOME. So catchy, fun, and unique. I just realized that I never published the “Talking about” I did on this music video… Woops :p That really sucks haha, but I basically mentioned how much of an awesome song it was, and how much I was in love with it. :p Her is not only one of my favorites for 2014, but also of Block B’s songs!

Some – Soyou & Jung Gi Go: The song that defined the year of 2014 in terms of kpop… Haha okay, this is a bit of an exaggeration (I’ll admit) but I feel like this sweet, catchy song became very popular in Korea. If you weren’t too crazy about k-pop last year (and missed out on this song), listening to Some is a must!

Come Back Home – 2NE1: Don’t let the quirkiness of the video scare you! This song is fantastic! 2NE1 has very strong vocals and it is definitely showcased in this song. It’s a super interesting mix of a lot of different styles, which combine into a very catchy song. 😀

1004 – B.A.P: Hehe, if you’ve read a few of my previous posts, you’ll know that I have a soft side for B.A.P. :’) My obsession aside, though, I think 1004 is an awesome song! It’s really cool and it packs a powerful performance. Great song from a talented group! P.S. Is anyone else really sad about B.A.P’s lawsuit? 😥

Good Luck – Beast: This song is awesome! It’s really catchy, and it brings back memories of the days when I was crazy about Beast haha :’) Super interesting sound! It’s a good place to start if you’ve never heard of any Beast songs.

Go Crazy – 2PM: What to say… other than GO CRAZY! This might be one of the catchiest, most fun songs on this list. Not only is the dance really fun, the song itself makes me want to dance. This is the song for you if you want a fun, upbeat dance song! I strongly recommend that you watch a performance video of it, because the dance adds to the fun of the song. 🙂

A – GOT7: GOT7 is also one of my favorite rookies (and groups in general) of 2014! They are a fun, talented group that has awesome songs. 🙂 So groovy and fun! This song is a must-press-repeat-after-listening-to-the-first-time type of song, because it is just that catchy and cute. 🙂 Stop stop it is really cool too, but I personally prefer A!

Angel – Yoon Mi Rae: This song probably isn’t as well-known as the other songs on this list (and you might not consider it k-pop) but it is too good not to include. Rather simple and a bit repetitive, but it’s so sweet and awesome! 🙂 It’s not like Yoon Mi Rae’s usual style, but it is still just as awesome!

Hold Me Tight – Loco: Again, another song that isn’t really k-pop (hehe). Regardless, this song is awesome! It shows how awesome Loco’s vocals are, and is a definite must. Its hip-hop feel might not be your thing, but for me, it’s totally what I love!

It’s You – Neon Bunny: Not k-pop, but still awesome! Neon Bunny has a very interesting sound that shines through in this song. Might not be your cup of tea, but still give it a try! 🙂 I highly suggest that you try other Neon Bunny songs if you enjoyed this one as well.

Chisa Bounce – M.I.B: I have no idea why I love this song so much.. But I do! 😀 It’s not as popular as the other songs on this list, but it’s just as awesome. Something about its unconventional sound, which still accomplishes catchiness, deserves a spot on this list. The chorus is awesome!

That’s it for this post friends! 🙂 I’m so sorry for the delay again (9 months is a looong time) but I promise I will start posting more frequently now. I’ve been itching to talk to you guys about k-pop these days haha. There have been a lot of awesome songs in 2015 already, and now I need to catch up. 🙂 This list is not complete (at all) and I’ll add to it if I remember anything. These are the only ones that I can remember right now. 🙂 What do you think about my list? Were your favorites here? Let me know what songs I missed in the comments! I’d love to find out what other songs you have in mind. 🙂 Thank you for being patient!

Haven’t said this in forever, but hugs from your fellow K-Popper! ❤

Songs of the Month: May

Hi guys!

I told you guys I’d be back vey soon, and I’m here already :D! The month of May is finally over (it was a very busy month for me) and you know what that means?! 😀 It’s time for a Songs of the Month! There aren’t that many songs in this list for May. I don’t know why that is – maybe I didn’t search for songs as much as I did last month, or I didn’t find as many releases – but I still didn’t want to skip over it, despite how short this post may be. I hope you guys understand, and remember, please leave me comments if you have any other songs you think I should mention! Let’s get to it 🙂

Give Love – Akmu: A little bit of an obvious choice, perhaps? 🙂 Well, I absolutely loved this song and I totally think it deserves to be in this list. This is a very cute song. 🙂

Life is Good – Dynamic Duo: This is an amazing song that was released this month, which doesn’t have that many views (which is a shame 😦 ) I really enjoyed this and I hope you guys do too if you decide to give it a listen! 🙂

What are We?  – 애즈원: An old song that I discovered this month! Such a relaxing song and I love it! It has a very catchy melody.

Night and Day – Wheesung: If you read my Talking about on this song, you’ll know how much I love this song. Although it has been a while since it was released, I’ve been listening to it ever since and I enjoy it just as much as I did then. I definitely think this is one of the top songs of this month.

Erase – 4Men: Beautiful song. Enough said. Check it out! 🙂

You You You – Fly to the Sky: This is also another beautiful song! Oh yeah, by the way, I know this is a songs list but this video of Brian is worth mentioning so check it out if you have the time! It’s absolutely hilarious! 😀 One of my favorite moments in Korean TV haha I guess Brian’s humor adds to my love for Fly to the Sky 🙂 He was so funny on OMS if you watched that too. 🙂

Eternity – VIXX: I talked about this release yesterday so I don’t think I have to say much here. 🙂

That’s all I can think of right now, but I’ll make sure to add in anything if I remember it! I’d love to know what other songs you guys encountered this month! Thanks for reading!

Hugs from your fellow K-Popper! ❤

Talking about 200% – Akmu

Hi guys! 😀

How are you all doing? I’m in a really good mood right now and I hope you all are well too! 🙂 Today’s talking about is on a debut release that I personally was really looking forward to, and that is Akmu’s 200%! Watch it here! Keep reading to find out more.

Akdong Musician (aka Akmu) is a duo consisting of siblings Lee Chan Hyuk and Lee Soo Hyun. They were the winners of K-Pop Star Season 2, and are currently signed under YG Entertainment. Chan Hyuk was born on September 12th, 1996, and Soo Hyun was born on May 4, 1999 (wow I didn’t know she was this young :o) I think I was so excited for their debut because they had shown such promising things in the auditions. 😀 Let’s go right ahead and start talking about this release!

Song: I absolutely love it! 😀 It was a great song to showcase their unique music style, and I think that’s what makes it even more impressive. By the way, I’m totally mesmerized by Soo Hyun’s voice! :O I’m amazed every time I listen to her. It’s such a pure, clean sound, you know? (Hopefully someone agrees with me haha) They’re both very talented (that was quite evident in K-Pop Star 2) and it definitely shows through in the song too. Love love love the chorus part (seriously, so catchy), and I like the creative lyrics too. :3 I love the quirkiness of the song and, like their other performances on the show, the blend between their voices.  I appreciated how different it was and how they successfully conveyed their own style in an awesome song. Overall I’m very happy with it and am very much impressed.

Music Video: As much as I loved this song, I loved this video too! When I first watched it, I was thinking to myself “That guy is really cute! Soo Hyun is cute! They look cute together! This is cute!” and then there was that plot twist (which I really wasn’t expecting) and then I just felt bad when it happened :(… Haha, but I really liked the video because of that plot twist because it made the video so much more interesting (although it was already nice to begin with). I loved the revelation of each scene, from how she wants it to be, to how it really is, by using the unfolding transition! Super cool! 😀 Also, it has lots of beautiful scenes and shots. It’s a very fun, cute, quirky video, like the song, and it’s very entertaining to watch 😀 I love the sibling playfulness they have in the video too hehe

Overall, I loved the song and the video, and am very happy with Akmu’s debut! They did not disappoint, and for that, I am glad. :3 Hehe what are your opinions? Definitely let me know in the comments!

Also, check out this live performance of theirs on K-Pop Star 3! I had chills even just at the beginning of the song. It’s amazing. 😮

By the way guys, on a totally unrelated note, I met Jinwoon from 2AM today!! :O And I even took a picture with him! Although I may sound calm about it in this post, yes I still am freaking out about it, and it definitely made my day (more like month) hehe but anyways, enough with the rambling, thanks so much for reading and checking out my blog! I really do appreciate it. I hope you all have a fantastic week! ❤

P.S. Reserved for tomorrow’s Talking about: BTS. 😉

Hugs from your fellow K-Popper! 🙂

K-Pop Group of the Day: MBLAQ

Hello everyone!

Finally it’s Friday! Have a happy, happy rest of the day, and make the most out of it! Today’s post is going to be a K-Pop Group of the Day about MBLAQ, in honor of their recent promotions for Be a man. Click here if you haven’t watched it already. In case you didn’t know, I’ve already posted a Talking about on this song not too long ago, so go check that out too while you’re at it! :3

Happy MBLAQ :3 Image taken from soompi.com. All rights go to the respective owners!

I wanted to give a little bit of a backstory before I actually started giving my opinions. Although I was quite obsessed with MBLAQ at one point, I’m not as crazy about them now as I used to be, but I’m still a fan. 😛 Now that their comeback is here, I want to share my opinions on the group so, like anything I post, feel free to let me know about your opinions as well! Oh by the way, fun fact, I met MBLAQ once 😀 They were literally right in front of me, so that was really cool 🙂 And yes, they’re just as handsome in person haha!

Members: Lee Joon, Thunder, Mir, G.O, and Seungho

– MBLAQ stands for Music Boys Live in Absolute Quality. Part of J Tune Entertainment, debuted in 2009.

Favorite member? This is a tough question… Hm… Well I guess I’ll start with explaining by explaining a few things. First off, when I first found the group and started liking them, which is a couple of years ago, my favorite member was Lee Joon. :3 He’s so so charming haha. And he’s a great dancer too! Then, I started really looking into their songs, their performances, their appearances on TV shows, etc. and I stumbled upon the TV show Hello Baby, which basically is set upon a situation in which k-pop groups live with children as their fathers/mothers. Because of this show, I started really liking Mir because of his playful, funny personality, not to mention his awesome rapping. Recently, however, Seungho has been catching my attention, especially because of his vocals in Be a man. The conclusion of all that rambling is to say that it’s a pretty close tie between Lee Joon and Mir, although I do really like all of the members. :3

Favorite song? Okay, since I already told you guys I was a fan of theirs, you might be able to guess that it was hard to choose a favorite, because they have a lot of great songs, like Be a man which I was really impressed with. One song in particular, however, is a little bit more preferred by me, and that is Cry. Click here if you haven’t listened to this awesome song. SO GOOD. Seriously. It brings back memories, and even though it’s a bit of an oldie, I still think it’s great. Be a man has been growing on me even more, and it’s coming close to being, if not already, one of my favorites. I liked almost all of their songs, and I definitely think you should check them out when you have the chance.

One thing that sets them apart from others? I think they’re music style sets them apart. They produce “absolute quality” (hahaha) music that really, I rarely dislike too much. Also, they are really great performers and have a powerful presence on stage. That sounds so cliché, but it’s true you guys :3

Overall opinion? Well, as I’ve already mentioned a few times, I was their fan, I am their fan, and I’ll probably be their fan in the future too, unless they release something terrible (which I hope they won’t). To be completely honest, I’ve lost some interest compared to when I was obsessed with them, probably because I was busy and couldn’t keep up with their schedules, promotions, and what not, but I’m really impressed by their new release nonetheless, as I am with their other songs. I know that I can rely on them for good songs, and Be a man wasn’t an exception. I really like MBLAQ, and I think they’re great :3

What do you think about MBLAQ? Do you hold the same opinions about them as I do? Let me know in the comments! Thanks so much for reading, and enjoy your weekend. 🙂

K-Pop Findings: MYNAME

Hi guys!

Although I was unsure of what type of post I should publish today, I decided to do a K-pop Findings! It was difficult to even narrow down which group I was going to talk about, since I’ve found so many great groups in the past few days, but I decided on MYNAME, and my oh my, there is a lot to talk about! 🙂 Let’s go ahead and get started!

Image taken from ohkpop.com. All rights go to the respective owners!

MYNAME is a group signed under H2 media, and debuted in 2011. The group was formed by the former Fly to the Sky member Hwanhee. There are 5 members: Gunwoo, Insoo, Seyong, JunQ, and Chaejin.

I actually was a little bit familiar with Insoo and Seyong, or had heard of them already, because I saw them on KBS’ TV show Let’s Go Dream Team, but I didn’t really know much about the group or the members. One day, I was on Youtube and I saw this interview by Arirang K-Pop with them, and I really liked their song! This led me to watch their music video for Baby I’m Sorry, and let me tell you, I was quite impressed!

My thoughts on this music video are that I enjoyed it and thought it was pretty awesome! I was surprised to see Chu Sung Hoon and that other actor (who’s name I’m not really sure of) but their appearance was quite interesting in the video. To be honest, I couldn’t even pay that much attention to the song because I was focusing on the music video and trying to hear what they said, which says a lot about it doesn’t it? 😀 As you guys hopefully know by now, I very much enjoy music videos with a storyline or plot, because I find them to be much more interesting, and just much more gratifying to watch. I don’t know, I just am much more impressed by videos with interesting plots, and this video was pretty much like that. Although there were a few awkward or confusing parts, I enjoyed the video overall as it was almost like a short film to me! Oh, I was too concerned with explaining the video that I forgot to mention the song :3 But the song was really good too! I think it might be my favorite out of all the ones I’ve heard of them now!  This is a live performance of Baby I’m Sorry if you want to check it out!

I knew I had to look up more songs on MYNAME, after listening to Baby I’m Sorry, and when I did, I cam across these. I didn’t find too many songs but here is the list:

Hello & Goodbye  – Another interesting video! Check  out this nice song!

Message – This song sounds like something I’ve heard of before, but I can’t quite point out when or where. 😛 It’s catchy though! Reminds me of the old days of K-Pop haha 😉

Day by Day – This video is really cool! I really like the multiples of each person (this doesn’t make sense at all, but if you watch the video you’ll hopefully understand what I mean), and the editing, as well as the change of sets, was cool!

그까짓거 – Don’t really know how to translate the title into English, but check it out anyways! 🙂 Again, another upbeat, catchy song! Makes me bob my head haha 😛

Support their Japan promotions by checking out their music video for F.F.Y. It’s pretty awesome 🙂

Overall, they’re a group with very much approachable, catchy songs and some really cool music videos. I’m looking forward to their future promotions! I apologize for not going too deeply into MYNAME, but I couldn’t really find too many of their songs. I thought you guys would like to know, however, that I’ve been singing Baby I’m Sorry in my head the whole time I’ve been writing this post! 😛 Please leave any recommendations for other MYNAME songs in the comments, and any of your opinions are welcome! 🙂 Thanks for reading, and I’ll be back tomorrow with another post.

P.S. Would you guys be interested in me including the profiles of the members in these posts from now on? Let me know! 🙂

Hugs from your fellow K-Popper! ❤

Songs of the Month: March

Hello friends!

It’s finally the end of March and I don’t know about you guys, but I feel like it passed by so fast! How was March for you? Personally, it was a special month for me because I started my Time to K-pop blog and I’m really happy I did! What are some memorable things in March for you guys – K-pop related or non-related? Let me know in the comments!

Songs of the Month is an idea I had for a category when I started the blog. I decided to do it as a monthly thing, because doing it weekly would be too often. Since it’s finally the end of March, I thought I’d start posting it now, before it’s too late :3! Songs of the Month will basically be, as the title says, songs that I’ve discovered in the month that I really liked, and want to share with you guys. The songs won’t necessarily be released in that month, although many of them might be, but will be chosen by when I encountered them. Feel free to leave any song recommendations of your favorites from the month! Let’s go and get started!

By the way, this month might have a few songs from February too, since I obviously didn’t have a Songs of the Month then, so keep that in mind! Make sure to click the links if you haven’t listened to the songs already!

1004 – B.A.P.: Absolutely love this song! It’s obviously different from their Warrior style, but I really enjoyed both the song and their performance either! Their album, First Sensibility, is awesome too! P.S. Happy birthday to Bang Yong Guk (the leader of B.A.P)! :3

You Deserve Better – Verbal Jint: There are a few things I have to say about this song. First off, I didn’t really find it this month, but I rediscovered it, and I realized how much I love it. It’s seriously one of my favorite K-pop songs. I don’t know why, I just find it so nice. Also, I don’t really know if the translation of the title is right so don’t blame me. :S Anyways, definitely give it a listen if you haven’t already!

Mr. Mr. – SNSD: I won’t talk about this song too much, since many of you probably know it already, but I really thought it was a cool, catchy song!

Some – JungGiGo & SoYou: A lot of you probably know this song too, since it’s been #1 in many music programs, but it’s still one of my favorites anyway! I love their voices and the song is so sweet. I never really talked about the video, but it’s so so so cute!

Four Times Around the Sun – Nell: I’m a fan of Nell (I should probably do a K-pop Findings about them soon) and this song was far from a disappointment. It’s a really nice song and definitely one of the highlights of this month.

해도 해도 너무했어 – Navi: I don’t think many people know about this song, and I apologize but I don’t really know how to translate the title, but I really liked it and I thought her voice was great. 🙂

Video Games – Boys’ Republic: I haven’t really talked about this song much, but I find it to be really catchy, and the chorus is really cool. It’s an overall really awesome song and more people should give it a listen!

I have a girlfriend – JYP:  Such an old song! I know, I know, but I rediscovered it this month, and I decided I’d include it for all of you that haven’t heard of it already. I’m sure that there’s a better version of this song somewhere, and despite the fact that this video is cringeworthy, I decided to include it anyways because hey, awesome blast from the past. The song is great though, especially the guitar parts :3

R.O.D – G.D.: I didn’t listen to this song when it was released (I really don’t know why) and when I found this song, I fell in love with it, and especially the chorus. It’s an awesome, and I really love this particular performance too.

Secret Love – B.A.P: Another B.A.P song (hehe sorry about that) and I do know that it’s really old, but I rediscovered this song this month. It’s really nice!

See Through – Kwon Jin Ah: I know lots of people were crazy about her cover of this song, and although it’s part of the audition program K-Pop Star, I had to include it here because her voice is so great and my oh my, what an amazing song and performance. I can not get over her voice. K-Pop Star fans unite! 😀 Oh, and check out the original here if you’d like!

Wild Flower – Park Hyo Shin: This song is so relaxing, and beautiful at the same time. If you’re needing to wind down, calm down with a great song, this is for you!

Also, here are some of my favorites from Talking about’s in this month. To be honest, the songs this month were all pretty awesome, so these are just a few that I decided to include here too.

Without You – Lee Michelle, Come Back Home – 2NE1, Full Moon – Sunmi, Be a Man – MBLAQ, and many others (that I won’t include here but check them out in the actual Talking about’s) haha :3

I’m pretty sure I’m missing some songs (sorry, I’ll keep track of songs better next month hehe) and I’ll update this as I remember them, but this is it for now! I really hope you guys enjoyed this and don’t forget to include your suggestions too! I hope April is even better than March for all of you! 🙂 I’m looking forward to all the cool songs that will be released in April! Thanks for reading, and all the support! 🙂

Hugs from your fellow K-Popper! ❤
