Favorite K-Pop Songs of the Year: 2014

Hellooooo everyone! I’m back! ❤

You might be thinking, “Wait… who’s this?” and to that, I say “It’s Time to K-Pop!” Haha… stupid jokes aside, I really (sincerely) missed talking to you guys and posting on the blog, especially considering all that has happened in the K-pop industry recently. Yup, I’m talking about the good, the bad, and the ugly. :S It’s already been 9 months (!!!!!) since I’ve posted, and before anything else, I’d like to explain why I’ve been away for so long. First off, I’m so so so sorry for my absence. 😦 I’ve been really busy with school and college applications, and it was a bit overwhelming for me… I could go into more depth (and rant) about this, but I’ll save it because we have other, more interesting things to talk about! 😀

Anyways, I’m back, and we’re already almost halfway done with 2015! 😮 I hope the new year has been great for everyone, and that you guys achieve whatever goal you have in mind! 🙂

Enough with all that rambling though! A looot has happened in k-pop, whether that be good or bad and now that 2014 is over (since quite a while ago), I want to celebrate all the songs I felt were my favorites in this past year. I think this list is going to be a bit long (and this post is already long), so let’s get started! The songs are in no particular order. 🙂

Overdose – Exo: A lot has happened to Exo this past year (I’m sure you guys know what I’m talking about) but I think this powerful, yet catchy song is definitely one to recognize for 2014, and for Exo. Check out the video for the awesome dance routine as well as well. 🙂

Eyes, Nose, Lips – Taeyang: I’ve written about this song already in previous posts, but to summarize what I said: I love this song. I listened to it a lot when it first came out, and I kept it on repeat for a looong time. Such a nice song! Definitely one of the highlights of k-pop in 2014, so check it out if you haven’t already!

200% – Akdong Musician: In my opinion, Akmu was one of the best rookies of 2014 and their album Play is fantastic. The album is amazing, and it has many great songs in it. This super talented group deserves to be recognized for its talent!

Lonely – B1A4: (Almost) every time B1A4 releases a song, I am singing along to it in a few days. Their songs are so catchy, and this song is definitely one of those catchy songs as well! Another song that I listen to on repeat. 🙂

Her – Block B: This song was AWESOME. So catchy, fun, and unique. I just realized that I never published the “Talking about” I did on this music video… Woops :p That really sucks haha, but I basically mentioned how much of an awesome song it was, and how much I was in love with it. :p Her is not only one of my favorites for 2014, but also of Block B’s songs!

Some – Soyou & Jung Gi Go: The song that defined the year of 2014 in terms of kpop… Haha okay, this is a bit of an exaggeration (I’ll admit) but I feel like this sweet, catchy song became very popular in Korea. If you weren’t too crazy about k-pop last year (and missed out on this song), listening to Some is a must!

Come Back Home – 2NE1: Don’t let the quirkiness of the video scare you! This song is fantastic! 2NE1 has very strong vocals and it is definitely showcased in this song. It’s a super interesting mix of a lot of different styles, which combine into a very catchy song. 😀

1004 – B.A.P: Hehe, if you’ve read a few of my previous posts, you’ll know that I have a soft side for B.A.P. :’) My obsession aside, though, I think 1004 is an awesome song! It’s really cool and it packs a powerful performance. Great song from a talented group! P.S. Is anyone else really sad about B.A.P’s lawsuit? 😥

Good Luck – Beast: This song is awesome! It’s really catchy, and it brings back memories of the days when I was crazy about Beast haha :’) Super interesting sound! It’s a good place to start if you’ve never heard of any Beast songs.

Go Crazy – 2PM: What to say… other than GO CRAZY! This might be one of the catchiest, most fun songs on this list. Not only is the dance really fun, the song itself makes me want to dance. This is the song for you if you want a fun, upbeat dance song! I strongly recommend that you watch a performance video of it, because the dance adds to the fun of the song. 🙂

A – GOT7: GOT7 is also one of my favorite rookies (and groups in general) of 2014! They are a fun, talented group that has awesome songs. 🙂 So groovy and fun! This song is a must-press-repeat-after-listening-to-the-first-time type of song, because it is just that catchy and cute. 🙂 Stop stop it is really cool too, but I personally prefer A!

Angel – Yoon Mi Rae: This song probably isn’t as well-known as the other songs on this list (and you might not consider it k-pop) but it is too good not to include. Rather simple and a bit repetitive, but it’s so sweet and awesome! 🙂 It’s not like Yoon Mi Rae’s usual style, but it is still just as awesome!

Hold Me Tight – Loco: Again, another song that isn’t really k-pop (hehe). Regardless, this song is awesome! It shows how awesome Loco’s vocals are, and is a definite must. Its hip-hop feel might not be your thing, but for me, it’s totally what I love!

It’s You – Neon Bunny: Not k-pop, but still awesome! Neon Bunny has a very interesting sound that shines through in this song. Might not be your cup of tea, but still give it a try! 🙂 I highly suggest that you try other Neon Bunny songs if you enjoyed this one as well.

Chisa Bounce – M.I.B: I have no idea why I love this song so much.. But I do! 😀 It’s not as popular as the other songs on this list, but it’s just as awesome. Something about its unconventional sound, which still accomplishes catchiness, deserves a spot on this list. The chorus is awesome!

That’s it for this post friends! 🙂 I’m so sorry for the delay again (9 months is a looong time) but I promise I will start posting more frequently now. I’ve been itching to talk to you guys about k-pop these days haha. There have been a lot of awesome songs in 2015 already, and now I need to catch up. 🙂 This list is not complete (at all) and I’ll add to it if I remember anything. These are the only ones that I can remember right now. 🙂 What do you think about my list? Were your favorites here? Let me know what songs I missed in the comments! I’d love to find out what other songs you have in mind. 🙂 Thank you for being patient!

Haven’t said this in forever, but hugs from your fellow K-Popper! ❤

Talking about Overdose – Exo-K

Hey guys!

How have you all been? In case you missed the news, Exo released their (highly anticipated) comeback Overdose today! Today I’ll be talking about the Exo-K version, instead of the Exo-M version, but you can check out the latter here! What did I think about this new release? Keep reading to find out!

Exo is a group formed under SM Entertainment with 12 members, and they released their debut single in 2012. They are divided into the subunits Exo-K and Exo-M. The members consist of Suho, Baekhyun, Chanyeol, D.O., Kai, Sehun, Xiumin, Luhan, Kris, Lay, Chen, and Tao.

A little disclaimer before I get into the actual talking: I know how big Exo is and how many fans they have, so I just wanted to make it clear that all these opinions in this post (emphasis on the word opinions) are my own, and my intentions are not to offend or hate on anyone with this post, or any of my other ones! Please don’t take my opinions too seriously, and don’t be upset at anything I say! 🙂 I’m a bit worried that I’m talking about this release pretty early on, but I hope you guys understand! ❤ Okay, now that I got that out of the way, let’s actually get started!

Song: What an awesome song! The first impression I got was that it’s powerful, and very detailed! (Does that make sense? :P) I don’t really know the right words to describe it, so I’ll try my best to be as eloquent as possible. I will say this though – they had a lot of little cool details and sounds that they incorporated in the song, and although I initially thought these things would overpower their singing, this didn’t happen at all, which amazed me! Their singing was awesome and the song is super catchy! I really like the chorus part especially, and I couldn’t help but want to sing along (or hum really) as well. I don’t think this is the right expression, but they have this strong, full sound that I personally really like. It’s the type of the song that had a lasting impact and was memorable to me. Not going to say much more, but it’s great and I love it!

Music Video: As for the music video, I’ll say that it was, in general, pretty cool! SM loves their large, oddly lighted rooms, but it was interesting to watch because it was really dramatic, yet captivating, and this is true especially for the dances. Speaking of their choreography, it was so creative and pretty epic in general! I loved so many things about it, like the drumming on the head as an example, and they were so well synchronized with each other! I mentioned Exo’s dance already in another post (Top 5 Dances one), and while I was already impressed with them then, I am even more so now! I can’t wait to see the live performances! Okay, getting back to the subject of the video, I was mesmerized by their dancing, and how precise, yet in sync, and fitting the dance moves were with the song. It made the video really entertaining to watch, and it kept me enticed during the whole duration of the video! I do have a few things I disliked and they are minor considering the video in a larger scheme, but I thought I’d mention it anyways. The first thing is the zooming (or warping, I can’t really tell) effect that happens often in the video, usually coordinated with their movement. At first, it didn’t bother me much, but as it got repetitive, it, personally, annoyed me, especially because it kind of threw me off, and disrupted my focus on the super cool dance routine. 😛 Another thing was the (overly) flashy lights that, similar to what I said about the other effect, were quite distracting. Other than that though, I loved the pass off of the camera (as I noted in the Growl dance practice video as well), and I was really impressed overall!

In general, I loved the song, and the video was cool, not to mention that the dance was epic! Would I download the song? You bet I will! 😉 What did you think? I know how eager everyone was about this video, so I want to know your opinion as well! Hope you enjoyed this post! 🙂

K-Pop Findings: Top 5 Dances

Hi guys! 😀

Welcome back to my blog after less frequent posting! :3 I do apologize for that, but I’ll make up for it with this one! I’ve been having trouble thinking of what types of things to talk about, and I didn’t wan’t to have a list on songs, because I’m already thinking of doing a Top Favorite K-Pop Songs list soon (so look forward to that! :D). That is why I’ve decided to talk about something a little different, so here it is! This post is my Top 5 Dances from K-Pop! 🙂

A little disclaimer before we start! I am, by no means, a professional dancer of any sort, and I am not claiming to be one! These are just some of the dances I personally think are unique, creative, or just a lot of fun! I’m pretty sure I’ll forget some (What can I say? I have the memory of a goldfish :3), but I’ll make more as I remember them if you guys like this first one! With that out of the way, let’s get started!

Sherlock – SHINee: The first time I saw the music video, I was in love. :3 SHINee has awesome dance routines for almost all of their releases, but I’ve chosen this one to include here. It’s so well coordinated and so so so creative! It’s so much fun to watch! I was very much impressed with this song, and the dance, on top of that, just made the performance much more captivating, not to mention that it’s really well synched and appropriate to the song. This dance version of their music video shows how great the dance is, so do check it out if you have not already.

Growl – Exo: This might be another obvious choice after Sherlock, but I think it deserves this spot! 🙂 Not only is this dance routine awesome, but I love the dance exchange between the two different “units”, and by this I mean Exo-M and Exo-K, during the dance. I think the fact that there are so many members in Exo makes it so that the routine looks even more complete and enticing. It’s a powerful dance and they make it look so coordinated, despite what I’ve mentioned before about them having so many members. I really like this dance practice video (pretty awesome because of the movement of the camera along with the routine, I think) so it’s definitely worth a watch.

Fiction – Beast: Although I really want to talk about this awesome song, that is for another day since we’ll be talking about the awesome choreography today. The choreography practice video I linked to  actually includes their routine for their song The Fact too, but Fiction comes a little bit after (starting at around 2:18). 🙂 What I love about this choreography is the feet shuffling thing (so eloquent right :P) that comes at the chorus part of the song. I love it every time I see it haha 😛 But overall, the dance is awesome! Obviously, there might be many other songs that have more “complicated” or intricate choreography, but it’s one that stands out in my memory! I remember I was so obsessed with it when it came out. :3 I can’t believe it’s already been 3 years! :O But anyways, the video is pretty cool too, so check it out, especially because they teach you how to do the step thing I was talking about at the end haha!

Nobody – Wonder Girls: Wow, the memories come up even just by hearing the title of this song. I said that Fiction was old, but Nobody is from 2008! :O Well, I was considering whether or not to put this song, or Tell Me, but Nobody takes this spot for today! 🙂 Now, this is probably one of the more unexpected choices, but hear me out, because I do have a reason for this! This song, and dance, was so popular when it was released and I definitely understand why. I personally really like this dance! It’s so simple, yet so addicting and I can’t help wanting to copy it! Of course, I do agree that it probably isn’t the most detailed, sophisticated dance, but just the sheer simplicity yet catchiness of the dance are enough to make it one of my top choices. The music video is hilarious and a lot of fun, too! 😛 Seriously though, kudos to you JYP! Straight up nostalgia from this song and dance, you guys. :3

1004 – B.A.P: Again, I had a little bit of hesitation when deciding which B.A.P dance I wanted to talk about (since they have so many awesome ones), but I chose 1004 their most recent release! The reason for this choice is because of the super cool solo dances (what, is this even a thing?) by Jongup and Zelo, but all the other dances parts of the dance were awesome, especially the one from the chorus! There are lots of cool moments in the choreography and it makes out to be an overall very impressive performance. Check it out if you haven’t already, and I hope you’re as impressed with this dance as I am.

So, here’s my Top 5 Dances (that I can think of right now)! I obviously have many others that I think are amazing, so if you liked this post, please let me know and I’ll do another one! Who else do you think should’ve been included in this post? Let me know! 🙂 Also, please keep in mind that this is my opinion only, and I wasn’t looking only at how complex or sophisticated the dance was, but also how great of a performance it was to me. I hope you all have a great week, and sorry for the lack of posts! 😦 It’s a bit of a difficult time to be posting as usual, so I hope you understand! Thanks so much for reading and checking out my blog! 🙂 Don’t be shy to comment!

Hugs from your fellow K-Popper! ❤
