Favorite K-Pop Songs of the Year: 2014

Hellooooo everyone! I’m back! ❤

You might be thinking, “Wait… who’s this?” and to that, I say “It’s Time to K-Pop!” Haha… stupid jokes aside, I really (sincerely) missed talking to you guys and posting on the blog, especially considering all that has happened in the K-pop industry recently. Yup, I’m talking about the good, the bad, and the ugly. :S It’s already been 9 months (!!!!!) since I’ve posted, and before anything else, I’d like to explain why I’ve been away for so long. First off, I’m so so so sorry for my absence. 😦 I’ve been really busy with school and college applications, and it was a bit overwhelming for me… I could go into more depth (and rant) about this, but I’ll save it because we have other, more interesting things to talk about! 😀

Anyways, I’m back, and we’re already almost halfway done with 2015! 😮 I hope the new year has been great for everyone, and that you guys achieve whatever goal you have in mind! 🙂

Enough with all that rambling though! A looot has happened in k-pop, whether that be good or bad and now that 2014 is over (since quite a while ago), I want to celebrate all the songs I felt were my favorites in this past year. I think this list is going to be a bit long (and this post is already long), so let’s get started! The songs are in no particular order. 🙂

Overdose – Exo: A lot has happened to Exo this past year (I’m sure you guys know what I’m talking about) but I think this powerful, yet catchy song is definitely one to recognize for 2014, and for Exo. Check out the video for the awesome dance routine as well as well. 🙂

Eyes, Nose, Lips – Taeyang: I’ve written about this song already in previous posts, but to summarize what I said: I love this song. I listened to it a lot when it first came out, and I kept it on repeat for a looong time. Such a nice song! Definitely one of the highlights of k-pop in 2014, so check it out if you haven’t already!

200% – Akdong Musician: In my opinion, Akmu was one of the best rookies of 2014 and their album Play is fantastic. The album is amazing, and it has many great songs in it. This super talented group deserves to be recognized for its talent!

Lonely – B1A4: (Almost) every time B1A4 releases a song, I am singing along to it in a few days. Their songs are so catchy, and this song is definitely one of those catchy songs as well! Another song that I listen to on repeat. 🙂

Her – Block B: This song was AWESOME. So catchy, fun, and unique. I just realized that I never published the “Talking about” I did on this music video… Woops :p That really sucks haha, but I basically mentioned how much of an awesome song it was, and how much I was in love with it. :p Her is not only one of my favorites for 2014, but also of Block B’s songs!

Some – Soyou & Jung Gi Go: The song that defined the year of 2014 in terms of kpop… Haha okay, this is a bit of an exaggeration (I’ll admit) but I feel like this sweet, catchy song became very popular in Korea. If you weren’t too crazy about k-pop last year (and missed out on this song), listening to Some is a must!

Come Back Home – 2NE1: Don’t let the quirkiness of the video scare you! This song is fantastic! 2NE1 has very strong vocals and it is definitely showcased in this song. It’s a super interesting mix of a lot of different styles, which combine into a very catchy song. 😀

1004 – B.A.P: Hehe, if you’ve read a few of my previous posts, you’ll know that I have a soft side for B.A.P. :’) My obsession aside, though, I think 1004 is an awesome song! It’s really cool and it packs a powerful performance. Great song from a talented group! P.S. Is anyone else really sad about B.A.P’s lawsuit? 😥

Good Luck – Beast: This song is awesome! It’s really catchy, and it brings back memories of the days when I was crazy about Beast haha :’) Super interesting sound! It’s a good place to start if you’ve never heard of any Beast songs.

Go Crazy – 2PM: What to say… other than GO CRAZY! This might be one of the catchiest, most fun songs on this list. Not only is the dance really fun, the song itself makes me want to dance. This is the song for you if you want a fun, upbeat dance song! I strongly recommend that you watch a performance video of it, because the dance adds to the fun of the song. 🙂

A – GOT7: GOT7 is also one of my favorite rookies (and groups in general) of 2014! They are a fun, talented group that has awesome songs. 🙂 So groovy and fun! This song is a must-press-repeat-after-listening-to-the-first-time type of song, because it is just that catchy and cute. 🙂 Stop stop it is really cool too, but I personally prefer A!

Angel – Yoon Mi Rae: This song probably isn’t as well-known as the other songs on this list (and you might not consider it k-pop) but it is too good not to include. Rather simple and a bit repetitive, but it’s so sweet and awesome! 🙂 It’s not like Yoon Mi Rae’s usual style, but it is still just as awesome!

Hold Me Tight – Loco: Again, another song that isn’t really k-pop (hehe). Regardless, this song is awesome! It shows how awesome Loco’s vocals are, and is a definite must. Its hip-hop feel might not be your thing, but for me, it’s totally what I love!

It’s You – Neon Bunny: Not k-pop, but still awesome! Neon Bunny has a very interesting sound that shines through in this song. Might not be your cup of tea, but still give it a try! 🙂 I highly suggest that you try other Neon Bunny songs if you enjoyed this one as well.

Chisa Bounce – M.I.B: I have no idea why I love this song so much.. But I do! 😀 It’s not as popular as the other songs on this list, but it’s just as awesome. Something about its unconventional sound, which still accomplishes catchiness, deserves a spot on this list. The chorus is awesome!

That’s it for this post friends! 🙂 I’m so sorry for the delay again (9 months is a looong time) but I promise I will start posting more frequently now. I’ve been itching to talk to you guys about k-pop these days haha. There have been a lot of awesome songs in 2015 already, and now I need to catch up. 🙂 This list is not complete (at all) and I’ll add to it if I remember anything. These are the only ones that I can remember right now. 🙂 What do you think about my list? Were your favorites here? Let me know what songs I missed in the comments! I’d love to find out what other songs you have in mind. 🙂 Thank you for being patient!

Haven’t said this in forever, but hugs from your fellow K-Popper! ❤

Talking about Where Are You? – B.A.P

Hey guys! I’m back again! Two posts in one day?! :O What is this??? Well, I realized I wasn’t being as frequent with my posting as I wanted to be (and at that rate, I’d never catch up in time :P) so I decided I’d post two times today! I can’t really say this will happen everyday from now on, but I’ll do this whenever I can, just so I can keep it going. 🙂  The second Talking about of the day is going to be on Where Are You? by B.A.P! I’m not sure if that’s the official English title, but I’m going with it because I’ve seen it written that way multiple times on B.A.P’s Facebook page. Before I start, I think a disclaimer is necessary (hehe). I apologize if I fangirl too much in this post but B.A.P is top of my favorites list and the emotions are too much for me too handle 😛 I’m sure you guys all have that one group, right? What is that one group for you? Let me know in the comments! Can you guys guess who my favorite member out of B.A.P is? 😀 Well, now that I’ve explained it (I hope you guys will understand), let’s get to talking about this release!

B.A.P is a group under T.S. Entertainment that debuted in 2012. The members consist of Bang Yongguk, Himchan, Daehyun, Youngjae, Jongup, and Zelo.

Song: What a cute, not to mention very sweet, song! 🙂 All the members’ voices are so nice and were definitely very fitting for this song. The lyrics are so adorable as well and I don’t know about you guys but the song made me smile and feel all warm inside, hehe :3. I also really like the instrumentation (which doesn’t seem to be the typical kpop sound) and I enjoyed the whistling parts. I was wondering how well this song would fit Bang Yongguk’s deep (very very deep) voice but it actually works in its own way. 😀 I also personally really like Zelo’s voice and the way he sings (although I noticed that some people don’t) and I don’t think it’s awkward in this song. 🙂 The song is really nice and soothing (I realized I was bobbing my head too as I listened to it haha :P) and most importantly, it’s super cute! I approve. 🙂

Music Video: If the song is sweet, the video is so so so cute! :3 I was dying at how adorable all the members were. 🙂 I do admit that this video would probably not be as interesting if you aren’t a B.A.P fan… woops :O. One thing I appreciated, putting aside the fact that I am a fan, was the scenery of London and the places they filmed at because my oh my, it was so gorgeous! 😮 I was in love with all the settings and especially the red phone booth. 🙂 The cuteness of the members was what stood out the most to me, however, with their goofy dances, their head bobs, the phone calls, and all the gestures as well. 🙂 I also liked how the focus transitioned from one member to another within the same shot (if you guys understand what I’m saying :P). Everything screamed “I will make your heart melt!” 😀 and I know I’m not the only one that feels this way. I also really loved their outfits (they look so good!) and who knew Zelo looked so good in glasses?! I really liked how natural, playful they seemed with each other, and I also liked the variety of shots and blunt edits from each one. Would you not die if these 6 boys were serenading you with this song and acting all cute like this? ❤ (Okay… tone down the fangirling please) I could go on and on about the things I loved in this video and how cute they were, but I’ll save you guys from the torture hehe :3 I had to watch the video a few times to digest everything that was happening haha. Although the video probably isn’t as meaningful or enjoyable to people that aren’t B.A.P fans, as one of them, I’m going to have to say that I love it and I can’t get enough! 😀

Overall, I really liked the song and the music video and I’d use “absolutely adorable” to describe both! What did you guys think? I have already downloaded the song, hehe 🙂 I realized that there were diverging opinions in regards to their concept for this release, compared to the ones they had previously. I’d love to know what you guys think about that too! Thanks for reading (I hope 2 posts a day doesn’t overwhelm you :P)

Hugs from your fellow K-popper! ❤

K-Pop Findings: Top 5 Dances

Hi guys! 😀

Welcome back to my blog after less frequent posting! :3 I do apologize for that, but I’ll make up for it with this one! I’ve been having trouble thinking of what types of things to talk about, and I didn’t wan’t to have a list on songs, because I’m already thinking of doing a Top Favorite K-Pop Songs list soon (so look forward to that! :D). That is why I’ve decided to talk about something a little different, so here it is! This post is my Top 5 Dances from K-Pop! 🙂

A little disclaimer before we start! I am, by no means, a professional dancer of any sort, and I am not claiming to be one! These are just some of the dances I personally think are unique, creative, or just a lot of fun! I’m pretty sure I’ll forget some (What can I say? I have the memory of a goldfish :3), but I’ll make more as I remember them if you guys like this first one! With that out of the way, let’s get started!

Sherlock – SHINee: The first time I saw the music video, I was in love. :3 SHINee has awesome dance routines for almost all of their releases, but I’ve chosen this one to include here. It’s so well coordinated and so so so creative! It’s so much fun to watch! I was very much impressed with this song, and the dance, on top of that, just made the performance much more captivating, not to mention that it’s really well synched and appropriate to the song. This dance version of their music video shows how great the dance is, so do check it out if you have not already.

Growl – Exo: This might be another obvious choice after Sherlock, but I think it deserves this spot! 🙂 Not only is this dance routine awesome, but I love the dance exchange between the two different “units”, and by this I mean Exo-M and Exo-K, during the dance. I think the fact that there are so many members in Exo makes it so that the routine looks even more complete and enticing. It’s a powerful dance and they make it look so coordinated, despite what I’ve mentioned before about them having so many members. I really like this dance practice video (pretty awesome because of the movement of the camera along with the routine, I think) so it’s definitely worth a watch.

Fiction – Beast: Although I really want to talk about this awesome song, that is for another day since we’ll be talking about the awesome choreography today. The choreography practice video I linked to  actually includes their routine for their song The Fact too, but Fiction comes a little bit after (starting at around 2:18). 🙂 What I love about this choreography is the feet shuffling thing (so eloquent right :P) that comes at the chorus part of the song. I love it every time I see it haha 😛 But overall, the dance is awesome! Obviously, there might be many other songs that have more “complicated” or intricate choreography, but it’s one that stands out in my memory! I remember I was so obsessed with it when it came out. :3 I can’t believe it’s already been 3 years! :O But anyways, the video is pretty cool too, so check it out, especially because they teach you how to do the step thing I was talking about at the end haha!

Nobody – Wonder Girls: Wow, the memories come up even just by hearing the title of this song. I said that Fiction was old, but Nobody is from 2008! :O Well, I was considering whether or not to put this song, or Tell Me, but Nobody takes this spot for today! 🙂 Now, this is probably one of the more unexpected choices, but hear me out, because I do have a reason for this! This song, and dance, was so popular when it was released and I definitely understand why. I personally really like this dance! It’s so simple, yet so addicting and I can’t help wanting to copy it! Of course, I do agree that it probably isn’t the most detailed, sophisticated dance, but just the sheer simplicity yet catchiness of the dance are enough to make it one of my top choices. The music video is hilarious and a lot of fun, too! 😛 Seriously though, kudos to you JYP! Straight up nostalgia from this song and dance, you guys. :3

1004 – B.A.P: Again, I had a little bit of hesitation when deciding which B.A.P dance I wanted to talk about (since they have so many awesome ones), but I chose 1004 their most recent release! The reason for this choice is because of the super cool solo dances (what, is this even a thing?) by Jongup and Zelo, but all the other dances parts of the dance were awesome, especially the one from the chorus! There are lots of cool moments in the choreography and it makes out to be an overall very impressive performance. Check it out if you haven’t already, and I hope you’re as impressed with this dance as I am.

So, here’s my Top 5 Dances (that I can think of right now)! I obviously have many others that I think are amazing, so if you liked this post, please let me know and I’ll do another one! Who else do you think should’ve been included in this post? Let me know! 🙂 Also, please keep in mind that this is my opinion only, and I wasn’t looking only at how complex or sophisticated the dance was, but also how great of a performance it was to me. I hope you all have a great week, and sorry for the lack of posts! 😦 It’s a bit of a difficult time to be posting as usual, so I hope you understand! Thanks so much for reading and checking out my blog! 🙂 Don’t be shy to comment!

Hugs from your fellow K-Popper! ❤
